Overview

Trekking through the extreme wilderness zone, "Barun Valley" searching the flagship Yak (Mystic?). Visiting the sacred lakes (Mulung Pokhari, Kalo Pokhari, Barun Pokhari); and exploring the picturesque alpine pastures with yak grazing: Cultural emersions to some of the richest mountain peoples, Karbhote, Singsawa Bhote, Sherpa, Rai etc. Sacred pilgrimage to the ancient Buddhist monasteries, beyul Khelpalung caves and natural spring sites related to Shivadhara and Guru Padmasambhava, Barun Dovan etc. Birdwatching in the Arun and Barun Valley.

Itinerary (19D, 18N)

Arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. You will be received by one of our representatives upon your arrival and then transferred to your hotel. Check into the hotel and take your time and rest or explore the happening streets of Thamel yourself. Thamel is full of energy: lots of shops and traditional Nepali restaurants-just think of it. This day is for preparation and relaxing, thus getting ready for the actual adventure.

Before starting your trekking journey, we have set aside a day in Kathmandu to help you learn about the unique art, culture, and architecture of Nepal. You will be guided to the UNESCO-listed heritage sites in Kathmandu. First, you will be escorted to Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you can visit the museum, palace, its premises, and the temples built around it. Next, you will be escorted to the monkey temple – Swayambhunath. We walk up the stairs to the stupa. From the height, we can get an excellent view of Kathmandu city. Then, we visit a popular Hindu temple – Pashupatinath temple and head towards the largest stupa in the world – Boudhanath stupa. In the evening, we return to our hotel for an overnight stay

Take a scenic flight to Tumlingtar before driving through beautiful hills, terraced farmland, and traditional villages to Chichila. Enjoy panoramic views of the Arun Valley as you prepare for the wilderness trek ahead.

Travel by vehicle through remote mountain roads and picturesque villages to Gola, the gateway to the pristine Barun Valley. Experience the peaceful rural landscapes and warm hospitality of the local communities.

Begin trekking through dense forests and along mountain trails to Dhumjang. Along the way, visit the famous Yeti Footprint site, a place surrounded by local legends and Himalayan folklore.

Continue through untouched forests filled with rhododendron, oak, and bamboo while crossing rivers and suspension bridges. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings before reaching the remote village of Tutin.

Follow scenic trails through alpine forests and traditional settlements inhabited by Rai, Sherpa, and Bhote communities. Experience the authentic culture and unique lifestyle of the mountain people.

Ascend through beautiful forests and open meadows to Bagare. Along the route, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding hills and opportunities to observe diverse birdlife and wildlife.

Enter the remote Barun Valley as the landscape changes into alpine meadows and rugged mountain terrain. The area is renowned for yak grazing pastures, sacred lakes, and breathtaking Himalayan scenery.

Continue through the spectacular Barun Valley, passing glacial rivers, rocky moraines, and alpine grasslands. Enjoy magnificent views of Mount Makalu, Peak 6, Peak 7, and surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Reach the magnificent Makalu Base Camp, surrounded by glaciers, towering cliffs, and the world's fifth-highest mountain, Mount Makalu (8,485m). Enjoy unforgettable panoramic views of Makalu, Chamlang, and Baruntse.

Spend the morning exploring the spectacular base camp and nearby viewpoints. Admire the dramatic glaciers and Himalayan scenery before descending to Langmale for the overnight stay.

Retrace your route through the beautiful Barun Valley, descending past alpine meadows, glacial streams, and pristine wilderness to Yangle Kharka.

Continue through the breathtaking landscapes of Makalu Barun National Park, enjoying peaceful forests, waterfalls, and rich biodiversity before reaching Dobate.

Cross scenic alpine ridges and mountain trails while enjoying magnificent views of the eastern Himalayas. Arrive at Khongma for a relaxing evening.

Descend through lush forests, terraced hillsides, and traditional villages to Seduwa. Experience the warm hospitality and rich cultural traditions of the Rai and Sherpa communities.

Complete the final day of trekking by returning to Num before driving back to Chichila. Celebrate the successful completion of your remarkable Barun Valley adventure.

Drive through the scenic Arun Valley to Tumlingtar before taking a short flight back to Kathmandu. Spend your final evening relaxing, shopping, or enjoying a farewell dinner.
